Business backup and recovery in Markham
Markham is home to a large technology, engineering and life-sciences community. We help Markham teams protect their data, move workloads to Azure on a sensible plan, and set up deployment pipelines that a small team can run.
Markham at a glance
- Who it fits: software and hardware companies, engineering firms, life-sciences startups and small teams with a few servers, cloud accounts and a code base.
- What we do: backup and recovery, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID protection, endpoint encryption, Azure migration and DevOps.
- What we plan for: lost laptops with source code, deleted cloud data, failed deployments and test environments that cannot be rebuilt.
- How it is delivered: remotely, in Eastern Time.
Technology teams still need ordinary recovery
Teams that build software are good at the new tools and sometimes less careful with the old ones. The source code is in a hosted repository, but the shared drive with specifications, the licence server, the build machine and the test lab may each be a single point of failure. Engineers’ laptops hold unpushed work and credentials.
We help with the unglamorous part: identifying what exists, protecting it with on-premises backup and restore and SaaS backup, encrypting the laptops with endpoint security and encryption, and writing down how each piece is restored. For identity, we cover Microsoft Entra ID as part of SaaS backup scope.
Where Azure and DevOps fit for a Markham team
A small team often does not need a platform group. It needs a repeatable path from code to production and a way back.
- Manual deployments. Releases that depend on one person and a checklist are slow and risky. DevOps consulting replaces that with a pipeline that builds, tests and deploys the same way every time.
- Environments nobody can recreate. If the test or staging environment was built by hand, it cannot be rebuilt quickly. Describing infrastructure as code with Terraform or Bicep fixes that.
- Servers that should be in Azure. Moving a build server, lab or internal app to Azure can reduce hardware worries, provided the move is planned. See Azure cloud services.
- Cloud data with no recovery path. Workloads running in Azure still need a plan to recover from deletion, corruption or a bad deployment.
Protecting intellectual property and meeting customer requirements
For technology and life-sciences companies, the most valuable data is often intellectual property: code, designs, research results and customer data. Protecting it means encrypted laptops, controlled access, protected backups and a documented way to recover. Customers in regulated industries often ask suppliers to show these controls.
Azure has two Canadian regions, in Toronto and Quebec City, so Canadian customers who want their cloud workloads to run in Canada can do that. Canada’s federal privacy law, PIPEDA, does not by itself require data to stay in Canada, but contracts and sector rules sometimes do, so confirm what applies to you. We are not a law firm.
Which service fits which situation in Markham
| If this describes you | Where we would start |
|---|---|
| Releases are manual and depend on one person | DevOps consulting, with pipelines and infrastructure as code |
| You run servers, labs or build machines on site | Azure cloud services, or on-premises backup and restore if they stay where they are |
| Your company runs on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID | SaaS backup |
| Engineers carry source code and credentials on laptops | endpoint security and encryption, with managed encryption |
| A lab or internal system must be back quickly | disaster recovery (DRaaS), for that system |
How we work with Markham businesses
Technical teams usually prefer a direct conversation, so we start with a call about your environment and write the scope plainly.
- Health check. We review the systems, storage and network the backups depend on before deploying anything.
- Written scope. What is protected, how often, where copies live and who restores, in your service agreement.
- Restore testing. Selected systems are restored to a separate location and timed, before and after go-live.
- Recovery exercises. Where disaster recovery is in scope, we rehearse failover on a schedule agreed with you.
Our office is at 3900 Confederation Pkwy in Mississauga, and the service works the same wherever you are in the GTA. We also cover Vaughan, Toronto, Mississauga, and you can see every area on our areas we serve page.
Questions from Markham businesses
Do you work with technology companies in Markham?
Yes. We are based in Mississauga and serve Markham and York Region remotely in Eastern Time, along with other parts of the GTA, Canada and the United States.
Do you help small teams set up CI/CD on Azure?
Yes. We set up build and release pipelines on Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, describe infrastructure as code with Terraform or Bicep, and add monitoring a small team can understand. Our work is focused on Azure.
Can you migrate our on-site servers or lab to Azure?
Yes. We inventory what you run, design the target setup with a rough monthly cost range, move workloads in small tested steps and cut over in a planned window with a rollback plan.
Does moving to Azure remove the need for backup?
No. Azure keeps its own infrastructure running, but deleting data, a bad deployment or ransomware inside your own environment still needs a recovery plan. Anything we move to Azure is designed with a way back.
Can Azure workloads stay in Canada?
Azure has two Canadian regions, in Toronto and Quebec City, and workloads can be deployed in them. Whether you need to keep data in Canada depends on your contracts and sector rules, so confirm that before choosing a region.
How do we begin?
Tell us briefly about your environment and what you want to change. A short call is enough to say whether we are a good fit and what a first step would look like.
